For this article it
was necessary for the author to create a new and original drawing of the twenty
letter inscription on the Yakov bar Yosef ossuary. The drawing by Ada Yardeni
which appeared in Biblical Archaeology Review of November/December 2002 (pages
26-27) was incorrect in some aspects and failed to represent certain important
details of the inscription.
James is not
specifically called the "brother of Jesus" in the New Testament, but the apostle
Paul referred to him as "the Lord's brother" in Galatians 1:19, and Matthew
13:55 mentions James as one of the "brethren" of Jesus.
